Nothing is free

In his Motown classic “Money”, Barry Gordy tells us “the best things in life are free.” That may be true, but we all know the list of best things is pretty damn short. Everything else has a cost, despite what too many ads say. Take a look:

Here are some excerpts from the transcript:

“Sorry to disappoint you, but we don’t do free. …
“In my industry there’s a whole lot of promising: free this, free that, free terminal, free termination fees. We’ll pay for this, we’ll pay for that.
“Free is a myth. Whatever business you’re in, even as a consumer, you see this a whole lot. Buy one meal get another one free. Get an oil change, get free wiper blades. …
“Rest assured that the garage that’s giving you free wiper blades is covering up the cost of them some other way. We prefer not to do business that way. We’re gonna tell you what you’re paying, where the money goes, straight up. …
“Free is just deception. If you’d like to learn more about what you’re going to be paying for, what your costs are going to be, where your money’s going with your merchant services, please give us a call at 510-408-6695.”
